The 2024 local government elections in 24 LG areas in Delta state took place Today, the 13th July, 2024 to elect new chairmen and Councilors with the Delta state independent electoral commission, DSIEC as the umpire.

Chairmanship election did not take place in Udu local government as the PDP candidate was returned unopposed since the APC candidate stepped down for him.

Our election observers were dispatched to the 24 local government areas with some of them going by boats to riverine communities of Burutu, Bomadi, Patani, Warri south west and Warri North.

Our fields men reported that sensitive election materials arrived early in most of the polling booths. There was also an impressive turnout out of voters, maybe due to the door to door campaigns carried out by one of the Political parties.

Incidents of snatching of ballot boxes were not heard, neither were incidents of illegal thumb printing of ballot papers experienced.

The elections were generally peaceful and thuggery free the security Agencies - Police, DSS, Nigeria security and Defense Corps, and the Federal Road safety commission (FRSC) deployed to polling stations carried out their duties with the highest degree of professionalism.

The polling agents of most of the Political Parties were not seen ostensibly because 16 political parties had on Friday,12th July adopted the 25 PDP candidates as their consensus candidates.
Except for a few tolerable lapses the election is adjudged free, fair and credible.

COMMENDATIONS
We wish to commend DSIEC for conducting one of the freest ,fairest and most credible local government elections in the history of Delta State. This may be attributable to early preparation and the number of consultative meetings the Commission held with Political Party leaders and stakeholders.

Also commendable is the security Agencies for being transparently neutral while also displaying high degree of professionalism in the exercise of their duties.

We also wish to commend the candidates and the electorate for conducting them selves with decorum during and after the elections.

We congratulate the winners in the elections and urge them to take the dividends of democracy to the grassroots.
