LG Polls: DSIEC Trains Prospective Adhoc Staff

IN — readiness for the conduct of the July 13, 2024 local government elections in the Delta, the State Independent Electoral Commission (DSIEC), has organized a one-day training programme on the various components of the electoral process for persons who applied to be considered for various positions as Adhoc staff in the elections.



The training took place at designated centres in the headquarters of the 25 local government areas of the state for Local Government Returning Officers (LGROs) and Supervisory Presiding Officers (SPOs).



Other categories of prospective Adhoc staff trained included; Ward Returning Officers (WROs), Presiding Officers (POs) and Poll Clerks (PCs), all of whom were further exposed to the requisite knowledge, skills, at titudes, manner of approach and general comportment expected of them on Election Day.



The trainings were coordinated by the Chief Electoral Officers (CEOs), in the Commission’s field offices spread across the 25 LGAs of the state and supervised by their Supervisory Electoral Commissioners.



The Chairman of the Commission, Dr. Jerry Agbaike was at the head of the team that visited Zappa Mixed Secondary School, venue of the training center in Oshi mili South Local Government Area.



He was accompanied on the visit by the two Electoral Commissioners in charge of Delta North, Hon. Onwuma Christopher Ofodili and Hon. Imasua Amino, as well as the Director of Public Affairs & Communications, Mr. Arubi Orugboh.



Dr. Agbaike and his team expressed delight at the large turnout of applicants and thanked Deltans for believing in DSIEC, which he assured was fully prepared to deliver on its mandate come July 13, 2024.



He used the opportunity to admonish the trainees to take the exercise seriously and be prepared to be good ambassadors of the Commission whose mandate was to conduct free, fair and credible Council elections based on the principles of fairness, equity and justice.



Other Electoral Commissioners, including Hon. Olo rogun Jude Emurotu and Hon. Chief James Umukoro led their teams to supervise training in Delta Central, while Hon. Barr. Friday Edmund Seimode and Hon. Mrs. Light Diden led their teams to supervise the training in Delta South senatorial district.



In all the training centres visited by the Supervisory Electoral Commissioners, the story was not different as the turnout was massive and training effectively carried out.



Some of the trainees who spoke said the programme was well packaged, indicating the seriousness and readi ness of the Commission to conduct free, fair and credible Council polls come July 13, 2024.
